The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh welcome 8.3 million tourists in 2016, an year-on-year increase of seven percent, with a remarkable surge in the border areas of Mong Cai and Binh Lieu.
Mong Cai City is one of the province’s four tourism hubs. It lured 1.6 million arrivals in 2016, and earned 1.1 trillion VND (48.4 million USD), up 52 percent and 47 percent from 2015, respectively.
In 2016, Mong Cai introduced several new tourism products, such as city tours on electric cars, cross-border tours and community-based tours to the border islands of Vinh Trung and Vinh Thuc.
In September 2016, the Mong Cai – Vinh Thuc – Vinh Trung tour was established, contributing to tourism on the two border islands.
Meanwhile, the border district of Binh Lieu developed community-based tourism thanks to its landscapes and historical and cultural values, such as forests, terraced fields, Khe Van water fall, Luc Na temple, Luc Hon ancient banyan tree, Cao Xiem mountain, and Khe Tien water fall, and traditional festivals.
Binh Lieu has also taken measures to promote its tourism, including developing a plan for tourism development, offering incentives for tourism firms and building infrastructure facilities at tourism sites.
Locals have been encouraged to join community-based tourism, particularly in Khe Van and Khe Tien.
Duong Cam Henh, a home-stay service provider from Khe Tien village, Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district said he is mobilising villagers to do home-stay tourism to increase their income and introduce traditional culture to tourists.
Secretary of the Binh Lieu district Party’s Committee Mai Vu Tuan said the district aims to become a hub of cultural and resort tourism..
