Dien Bien tourist numbers rise sharply

The northern mountainous province of Dien Bien has received more than 28,000 tourists since the beginning of 2012, including 6,500 during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The province also welcomed around 700 foreign visitors from France, Australia, Canada, the US and Germany during Tet and earned around VND5 billion over the holiday.
Popular tourist destinations include Co My hamlet, Him Lam 2, and Men hamlet, as well as Pa Khoang eco-tourism site, Muong Phang historic forest, Pa Thom cave and hot mineral springs to enjoy nature and learn about the traditions, customs and daily lives of the local ethnic minority groups.
The province plans to expand communal cultural tourism and create more diverse tours of the historical sites at Dien Bien Phu in the near future.
