Viet Nam welcomes first e-Visa visitor

Bookmark and Share

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and the Immigration Management Department held a ceremony at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport on February 4 to greet Richard Kenneth Wilson (Britain), the first e-Visa visitor to Viet Nam.
The organising committee presented a souvenir and extended New Year wishes to the tourist of honour.
Earlier, Wilson applied for an entry e-Visa to stay in Viet Nam from February 3 to March 5. The Immigration Management Department granted the first Vietnamese e-Visa to him on February 1, the same day as the Government Decree No. 07/2017/NĐ-CP took effect.
According to the decree, Viet Nam was to commence granting 30-day entry e-Visas to nationals of eligible countries starting February 1, with all procedures, from submitting the dossier, declaring form and paying fee to sending the e-Visa, performed online.
It takes only three working days for tourists to find out if their applications have been approved or not.
Viet Nam’s e-Visa is applicable to citizens of the foreign countries with valid passports, who wish to come to Viet Nam for tourism or other purposes such as seeking trade partners, and so on.
The Vietnamese agency in charge of immigration management can now grant Vietnamese visas directly to foreigners instead of doing so through Viet Nam’s overseas representative offices as previously done, thereby making it easier for tourists to travel to Viet Nam and minimising the time needed to perform procedures.
During the recent Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday from January 20 to February 1, HCM City welcomed roughly 253,000 arrivals of foreign visitors, with the number of international flights to the city reaching 120-135 flights per day on average.
